About the Elijah Application

This app is a notification service that sends out a text message with your current location. Users of this app can upload their personal contacts to be notified at the click of a button. While primarily designed with suicide prevention in mind, this app can be used to notify personal contacts for any reason. Once the "24hrs" button is activated all numbers listed in the contacts section will be sent an SMS with the user's predefined message and their current location. This app can only send messages, not receive them. It is designed to let your contacts know that you need their assistance. Armed with that information, it is my hope that assistance will come flooding in. 

People in severe emotional distress may find it very difficult to get the help they need. Those around them may not recognize that the person is in need of support. Asking for help can be one of the hardest steps to take when in emotional distress and it is therefore often never taken. Most people who are thinking of committing suicide are yearning inside for someone to ask them about it. When no one else knows enough to ask, this app can get that conversation going with just one push of a button. Activating this app can give someone the assistance they need and a helping hand to get through a terrible time. 

It is my hope that this app will help those who suffer from emotional disorders and their families. Sometimes we just need someone to ask how we are. Sometimes we just need someone to ask us to give them 24 hours. If someone in emotional distress can give a friend or family member 24 more hours, if they can hang on to life for just one day more, they may find the strength to stay alive through the darkest periods of their life. 

Elijah - This app is named Elijah because he, like many today, went through a period of severe emotional distress. He even got to the point of walking alone in a desert, bringing no life sustaining provisions with him. In the intense heat he crawled under a tree for shade and begged for his life to be taken away. His cry for help was heard; he was given support and provisions that completely rejuvenated him, reigniting in him a desire to live and enjoy life. May this app be an aid in sending out that cry today and may the users of it find the support they need just as Elijah did. - 1Kings 19:1-8

24hrs - Why have the alert activation say "24hrs"? I was once on what I knew to be the last day of my life. A friend saw the distress in my face and reached out to see what was going on. I didn't say much and tried to pretend I was fine. He didn't know how critical the situation was but all the same asked for 24 hours. "I will ask for more, but please just start off by giving me this next 24 hours." He didn't know I had planned on killing myself that evening. I didn't, however, because I had promised to give him 24 hours. I was spared from suicide that evening all because of 24 hours. This button is my personal request for you to give 24 more hours. Please, just start off by giving me this next 24 hours. By agreeing to give me 24 hours before you decide to act on any negative thinking, by hitting the "24hrs" button, I hope you will find the support you need to fulfill your promise. Studies show that when someone attempts suicide there is often a part of them that still wants to live. The "24hrs" button is my appeal to the part of you that doesnt want to die.

How to Use the Elijah Application

Simply enter your name, phone number, and the alert message you want sent to your contacts. It is this information that will be sent to your contacts. Your message can be anything you wish and can even include emoticons. Feel free to change your alert message any time you see fit.
You choose who get the alert notifications. These contacts must be able to receive text messages. Add as many contacts as you wish. Once you add a contact, they will be sent an introductory text message informing them they have been added to your Elijah app. Contacts can be changed at any time.
Whenever you feel the need to alert your contacts, simply press the "24hrs" button. This will automatically send out your alert message as well as your current location. You will receive a confirmation that your message was sent.

By downloading and using this app you and your contacts agree to its disclaimer. This app does not support or endorse any specific type of professional help. It is not meant as a substitution to professional help but rather as an addition. The user and recipients of this app agree not to hold the makers of this app, the distributors, the service providers, the users, nor the recipients accountable for any death, injuries, damages, costs, inconveniences, and the like for the successful or unsuccessful use of this app and/or receipt or delivery of the alerts. Users must be aware that there are circumstances where messages may fail to send and/or people on the contact list may fail to receive and/or act on them. The creators, facilitators, recipients, and users cannot be held accountable for any negative impact, outcome, or occurrence based on any action and/or inaction due to the successful or unsuccessful use of the app. Any reimbursement for damages incurred by the use of this application are limited to the cost incurred of the purchase of this application. 
Having location services enabled can dramatically decrease battery life. 
The Elijah application is not HIPAA compliant. By the installation and use of this app, the user agrees to its disclaimer as well as the terms of service of Twilio, the messaging service used in this app. The creators of this application cannot guarantee that your personal information is secure.

END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT
This End-User License Agreement (EULA) is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or a single entity) and the owner of the ELIJAH application. By installing, copying, or otherwise using the ELIJAH application, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA. If you do not agree to the terms of this EULA, do not install or use the ELIJAH application.
The ELIJAH application is being distributed as Freeware for personal, health, non-profit, and educational purposes. You are NOT allowed to charge for distributing this application. It may be distributed freely on any website or through any other distribution mechanism, subject to the approval of the owner of the Elijah application, as long as no part of it is changed in any way.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE. This EULA grants you the following rights: Installation and Use. You may install and use an unlimited number of copies of the ELIJAH application.
Reproduction and Distribution. You may reproduce and distribute an unlimited number of copies of the ELIJAH application provided that each copy shall be a true and complete copy, including all copyright and trademark notices, and shall be accompanied by a copy of this EULA and the disclaimer within the terms of this agreement.
Copies of the ELIJAH application may be distributed as a standalone product or included with your own product as long as the ELIJAH application is not sold or included in a product or package that intends to receive benefits through the inclusion of the ELIJAH application.
The ELIJAH application may be included in any free or non-profit packages or products, subject to the approval of the owner of the ELIJAH application.
2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS.
Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, Disassembly and change (add,delete or modify) the resources in the compiled ELIJAH application.
You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the ELIJAH application, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation.
Software Transfer.
You may permanently transfer all of your rights under this EULA and the disclaimer, provided the recipient agrees to the terms of this EULA and the disclaimer.
Termination.
Without prejudice to any other rights, the owner of the ELIJAH application may terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this EULA and/or the disclaimer. In such an event, you must destroy all copies of the ELIJAH application and all of its component parts.
3. COPYRIGHT.
All title and copyrights in and to the ELIJAH application (including but not limited to any images, photographs, clipart, libraries, and examples incorporated into the ELIJAH application), and any copies of the ELIJAH application are the property of the owner of the ELIJAH application. The ELIJAH application is protected by copyright laws and international treaty provisions. Therefore, you must treat the ELIJAH application like any other copyrighted material.
LIMITED WARRANTY
NO WARRANTIES.
The owner of the ELIJAH application expressly disclaims any warranty for the ELIJAH application, its use, and its performance.
